About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking engineering students for a Summer 2027 internship within Power Delivery Operations. This program provides hands-on experience in the construction and maintenance of high-voltage electrical equipment. Interns will work directly with field crews to learn how electricity reaches customers through transmission lines, substations, and distribution systems. This is a full-time, paid position based in West Columbia, South Carolina.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside substation construction and maintenance crews to install, inspect, test, and repair substation equipment.
- Review construction drawings, job plans, and technical documents to support field operations.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment while supervised by qualified employees.
- Travel to various substation locations throughout the service territory.
- Support power restoration efforts following storms and outage events.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments, including around heavy equipment and energized facilities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Mechanical or Electrical Engineering at an ABET accredited university.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- A valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- A basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a crew.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and work in challenging field conditions.
