    About the role#

    The Government of Nova Scotia is building a pool of students for summer 2026 roles in Trades, Maintenance, Labour, and Occupational Health and Safety. This centralized intake process matches students with various opportunities across provincial government programs. These roles provide hands-on experience and mentorship while you work alongside experienced public sector professionals to maintain infrastructure and support essential services.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the upkeep of government buildings, parks, roadways, and public spaces.
    • Assist with grounds and facility maintenance, equipment operation, and basic construction or repair tasks.
    • Help with traffic control and road maintenance duties.
    • Gain exposure to occupational health and safety legislation by assisting with inspections, hazard identification, and safety program initiatives.
    • Contribute to the safe operation of public infrastructure across the province.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a high school or post-secondary program with plans to return to studies in the next academic term.
    • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new skills.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
    • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
    • A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
    • Relevant majors include Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Public Health, Human Resources, Psychology, Communications, and Criminal Justice.
