About the role#
As an intern in the microbiology lab, you will learn the functions and supporting activities of an industrial food microbiology laboratory. You will work with the Laboratory Team and interact with Research & Development, Operations, Engineering, and Food Safety & Quality teams to contribute to real projects.
What you'll do#
- Conduct applied and molecular microbiology QC and pathogen testing procedures.
- Lead studies to evaluate new detection technologies, products, and processing procedures.
- Generate, analyze, and interpret microbiological data and reports.
- Collect and analyze daily or weekly environmental swabs, incoming raw materials, and finished products.
- Troubleshoot potential microbiological or quality issues related to production and materials.
- Support Research & Development, Operations, and Manufacturing teams.
- Assist in corporate food safety and quality enhancement initiatives.
- Support general laboratory preparation and assist in the chemistry lab.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in food or meat science, microbiology, biochemistry, or biology. Junior or senior status is preferred.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Knowledge of microbiology, food safety, and testing protocols.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and statistical software.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete work records.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel to other facilities and work off-shift as needed.
- Prior work experience is preferred.

- This is a full-time, paid internship located in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
- This role is on-site.
