About the role#
This undergraduate research assistantship focuses on the investigation of fertilization mutants in Caenorhabditis elegans. You will assist in determining whether specific mutants exhibit defects in sperm function, fertilization, or egg activation through genetic and microscopy-based methods.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate reproductive phenotypes of mutant C. elegans nematodes.
- Maintain C. elegans strains.
- Prepare materials for RNAi experiments.
- Perform bacterial culture and maintenance.
- Assist with microscopy and molecular biology tasks.
What you'll need#
- Must be Work Study eligible.
- Basic micropipetting skills.
- Experience with sterile technique.
- Ability to work safely with non-toxic laboratory chemicals.
- Preference for students majoring in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or Chemistry.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York.
- Term: Fall 2026 and Winter 2027.
- Schedule: 5-8 hours per week, to be determined with the supervisor.
- Modality: On-site.
