About the role#
This is a full-time internship for Summer 2027 within our Grid business unit. You will work on a project team to support the design, modification, and upgrade of transmission and distribution projects. You will work under the direction of senior engineers to apply your academic background to real-world engineering challenges.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and associated data for project reporting.
- Contribute to power designs and prepare documents for the procurement of major equipment, structures, and installation services.
- Use modern tools, including automation and scripting, to solve problems, improve workflows, and verify results.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a BS or MS program in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Students in other engineering disciplines may be considered if they have relevant coursework.
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited program is preferred.
- Strong academic background with a minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently as a proactive self-starter who can prioritize issues and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership experience on campus or in the community.
- Prior internship or co-op experience in this business area is a plus.
- Proficiency in programming or scripting, such as Python or MATLAB, is valued.
Location & details#
- Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Modality: Hybrid, with an expectation of three days per week in the office.
- This position is paid.
