    About the role#

    SME is hiring for a Civil Engineering Co-op position based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a full-time, paid role running from mid-May 2027 through late November or early December 2027. You will participate in an initial orientation and training period followed by hands-on work alongside full-time team members. This position offers exposure to consulting engineering practices and various construction techniques.

    What you'll do#

    • Support field construction quality control activities.
    • Assess and evaluate project materials like soils, concrete, and asphalt.
    • Work with contractors and team members to ensure adherence to project specifications.
    • Assist engineering staff with field evaluations and quality control testing.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering program.
    • Basic computer literacy for field work, communications, and reporting.
    • A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
    • Ability to work outside at construction sites in various weather conditions.
    • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds.
    • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and stand, stoop, or kneel for long periods.
    • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and a commitment to safety.

    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Duration: Summer 2027 term (May through November/December).
