About the role#
SME is hiring for a Civil Engineering Co-op position based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a full-time, paid role running from mid-May 2027 through late November or early December 2027. You will participate in an initial orientation and training period followed by hands-on work alongside full-time team members. This position offers exposure to consulting engineering practices and various construction techniques.
What you'll do#
- Support field construction quality control activities.
- Assess and evaluate project materials like soils, concrete, and asphalt.
- Work with contractors and team members to ensure adherence to project specifications.
- Assist engineering staff with field evaluations and quality control testing.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering program.
- Basic computer literacy for field work, communications, and reporting.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work outside at construction sites in various weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and stand, stoop, or kneel for long periods.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and a commitment to safety.
