    About the role#

    The Exercise Physiology Core Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a student employee to assist with daily lab operations. This position provides hands-on experience for undergraduates interested in kinesiology, biology, biomedical sciences, or public health. You will support research staff during human subject testing and ensure the lab environment is prepared for scheduled sessions.

    What you'll do#

    • Set up and break down lab space and equipment for studies.
    • Calibrate testing equipment, such as metabolic carts and ergometers, before sessions.
    • Clean and sanitize lab space, equipment, and metabolic masks.
    • Assist research staff with exercise test measures, resting metabolism tests, and Bod Pod assessments.
    • Help supervise exercise training sessions for participants.
    • Maintain lab supplies and restock items as needed.
    • Complete testing forms and update subject-facing handouts.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a UVA undergraduate student.
    • Eligibility for Federal Work Study.
    • Current BLS certification.
    • Ability to work independently and follow standardized procedures.
    • Strong communication skills to coordinate with staff regarding scheduling.
    • Availability for flexible hours, including early morning or late afternoon sessions.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Fall 2026 through Spring 2027 (September 14, 2026, to May 4, 2027).
    • Compensation: $17-$20 per hour.
