About the role#
This internship is part of the Renewable Operations organization at Xcel Energy. You will join a cross-functional team that includes field operations, reliability engineering, and performance optimization. The role focuses on improving performance across our solar, wind, and energy storage assets. You will work on projects that provide business impact while gaining insight into how we manage a diverse renewable fleet across multiple regions.
What you'll do#
- Analyze operational performance data for solar, wind, and storage assets.
- Identify performance trends, regional inconsistencies, and gaps.
- Develop and support standardized processes and best practices for site operations.
- Create and maintain reporting, dashboards, and performance tracking tools.
- Collaborate with site teams and engineering groups to improve generation performance.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to increase reliability and availability.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher at an accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Management Information Systems.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Python.
- Interest in operations, reliability engineering, or renewable energy technologies.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027 (starting May 24, 2027).
- Work Modality: Hybrid (full-time, up to 40 hours per week).
- Travel: Ability to travel to renewable generation sites is required.
