About the role#
This position is open exclusively to current or former HNTB interns. As a Field Engineer I, you will support construction projects by providing engineering inspection and documentation. You will help monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and local regulations. This is a full-time, on-site role.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field work tasks to ensure projects follow contract documents.
- Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
- Observe on-site material testing and track monitoring services.
- Perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
- Review contractor daily reports for accuracy.
- Document progress using photos and video.
- Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and help resolve construction issues.
- Perform office engineering tasks, such as preparing meeting minutes and maintaining tracking logs for submittals and pay estimates.
- Use technology like GPS and Rovers to improve inspection efficiency.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Skill in identifying discrepancies or conflicts within project documents.
- Experience writing daily inspection reports.
- Familiarity with inspection checklists and shop drawing reviews.
- Ability to interpret basic contractor CPM schedules.
- Preference for candidates with an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or experience with digital construction management software.

- This role is based on-site in one of the following cities: Austin, Baton Rouge, Dallas, Des Moines, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Kansas City, Little Rock, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Overland Park, Plano, Round Rock, San Antonio, or St. Louis.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
