About the role#
The Inter-American Development Bank is seeking an undergraduate student for a paid, full-time technical internship. This role provides an opportunity to gain professional experience in AI, machine learning, and data analytics within an international development context. You will work on-site at the Bank's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
What you'll do#
- Support the collection, cleaning, organization, and preparation of data for AI and analytics projects.
- Assist in developing, testing, and documenting AI prototypes, proofs of concept, and automation tools.
- Evaluate AI models by analyzing outputs, identifying performance limitations, and summarizing findings.
- Research emerging AI methods, tools, and responsible AI practices to support business processes.
- Prepare technical documentation, summaries, and presentations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- You must be an active undergraduate student in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate study is required.
- Your graduation date must occur after the internship period.
- You must be a national of an IDB member country.
- You must be a first-time participant in an IDB or IDB Invest internship program and have no prior employment or contractor history with the Bank.
- No family members may currently work at the IDB or IDB Invest within the specified degrees of consanguinity or affinity.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools like Power BI.
- Understanding of machine learning and generative AI concepts, including APIs, prompt engineering, and evaluation techniques.
- Ability to work with both structured and unstructured data.
- Strong technical documentation skills.

- Location: Washington, D.C., United States.
- Term: January 16th to March 15th, 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid internship.
